Proposed Modification of Traffic Light Type and Increasing Effective Green at a Crossroads in the East Zone of São Paulo to Cross Pedestrians with Reduced Mobility

EasyChair Preprint 1991

15 pagesDate: November 19, 2019

Abstract

Through this article, you can present a proposal to increase the green effective time and apply the type of traffic light at an intersection in the east side of São Paulo for pedestrian crossing with reduced mobility. The article is methodologically based on the field study at the intersection between Estrada do Lageado Velho and Estrada Dom João Nery and questionnaire with residents of the region of Guaianases, which is frequent or local. With an analysis, find out if the traffic light has no safety margin for crossings of people with reduced mobility and the current traffic light is not the most suitable for guiding passersby. In addition, there are problems related to the painting of the crosswalk and the lack of respect of vehicles in relation to the right of way of vehicles. Conclude whether the site under study is required, in addition to increasing the effective green time, semantic alteration and revitalization of the lane, installing a radar at the traffic light and conducting awareness campaigns on the importance of pedestrian visibility.
